This article is in response to many of my readers asking about this subject specifically, and asking what resources to use for each marketing method.
This is a question I get asked many times over:
"What are effective ways to market or advertise my business?"
I firmly believe that in building a network marketing business, that a very effective and leveraged way to do that is to generate your own leads by offering an educational/informational piece or product FIRST.
The masses come straight out and talk about their company, their compensation plan, the company history, the products, etc. and HOPE that a prospect will be convinced because of that. Now, we all know the masses also have the highest failure rate.
The moral to that story: Do what the average networker does; get the results the average networker gets.
You need to be above average and unique. Why would someone want to do business with YOU specifically, when there are thousands of other reps in your company? You have to give people a reason to do business with you by providing them with something that the other reps aren't.

Now, for the purpose of making this short and to the point; I will specify a few of the top ways to market yourself and/or your company with in random order and list at least one source for each one:
First of all, there are websites:
A well designed website that is search engine optimized and has lots of relevant content and links can be a great marketing tool for you. If you want to build one from scratch, I would go with GoDaddy, as their templates are easy to customize and edit.
If you don't want to hassle with creating a site or don't have a clue as to where to begin, you can have a site builder company do a lot of it for you. My favorite site builder is Site Build It! They will design a website for you, host it, and make sure you are listed in good spots in the search engine listings, which is a huge obstacle many people never overcome. I have a lady on our team who has only been in network marketing about 2 months, never did any kind of online marketing before she used this service; and less than 2 weeks she was listed well on search engines as is making consistent sales without doing any additional marketing!
Another great marketing/advertising vehicle is blogging:
This is one of my favorite marketing methods because I love to write, and because blogs done correctly can get great search engine rankings and can become viral in many cases.
I personally host my blog through GoDaddy through their Quick Blogcast system. It only costs about $3/month and there is no need to mess with Wordpress or complicated templates. I get more traffic to my blog with them, than many people using Wordpress or using some kind of expensive blogging platform.
You can also use Blogger, which is a free blogging platform/hosting service. The only thing is that it may be harder to get good search engine rankings than other platforms, and to this date, you cannot view visitor stats using this platform, unless you use Google Analytics on your blog.
A method that works great with blogging, is article marketing:
Article marketing is a very effective way to generate traffic to a website or blog, and can also take on a viral form sometimes. If you love to write and can convey relevant content to your target market; article marketing may be a great marketing vehicle for you.
You can even pay other people to write your articles for you or get private label rights for pre-written articles, if you don't have much time to write or you don't like to write yourself.
There are tons of article directories all over the internet that you can submit your articles to. If you are short on time or want to leverage your efforts, I would highly recommend using the article submission software, Article Marketer. It will submit your articles for you to tons of directories without you having to upload and submit them one by one to each directory.
Another top marketing/advertising method is PPC (Pay-Per-Click) Advertising on search engines:
Two of the most popular are Yahoo Search Marketing and Google Adwords.
One thing you want to make sure of BEFORE you put up any ppc ads, is that you are properly educated on this subject and know exactly what to do. If you don't, you will most likely spend a lot more money than you will ever make. PPC is one of the quickest ways to generate traffic to a site, but there are lots of people competing for top spots and the prices seem to always be getting higher.
My advice is to have a ton of niche specific keywords and stay away from the most popular ones because it will just cost you more money and you will have competition with bigger budgets.
Here's a great way that can generate traffic as well, ezine (online magazine or newsletter) advertising:
I have several team members who use this method and get great results. You need to make sure your ad is well written and make sure you advertise in the right ezines that are reaching your target market. Here is a great resource for locating ezines, publishers, ad rates, etc: The Ezine Directory. There are some really great newsletters in here along with the contact information of the publishers. This can also be a great way to do a joint venture with a publisher.
An often ignored marketing method that can be very powerful is offline marketing:
Specifically I would refer to postcard or greeting card marketing. For the cost, correct card marketing can be a very effective way of advertising, marketing, and following up with prospects and customers.
I use a service called Send Out Cards that allows you to send out real, full size customized cards with your own pictures in them in your own digital handwriting in an envelope with a real stamp on them for about $ .93 plus postage, and you never even touch the card! You should check it out, as it will help you stand out from your competition, or even other reps in your company. It gives you more professional credibility and shows that you care about your prospects. It will really catch their attention.
